1 According to a high-resolution dataset reviewed by Carl Mills,
Hickory Knob is over 2986' and wins its rivalry with the other 3 contenders, which are all under 2986'.
2 Transylvania's Rich Mtn competes for the same prominence with The Pinnacle,
which is in Henderson county. Regardless of whether Rich Mtn wins or loses,
it is still the greatest prominence in Transylvania county.
3 There is a question as to whether or not the exact summit of
McDowell county's Rich Mtn is actually in the county.
4 Benn Knob competes with several other peaks in Rutherford and Burke counties for a ~600' prominence.
If it takes the prominence of the group, it wins the Cleveland county prominence;
otherwise, Covington Mtn takes over as the county prom champ.
According to a study by Carl Mills, however, Benn Knob loses the rivalry to a point 1 mile NW of Rich Mtn in Burke county.
